MODULE 03
Pattern vs. Surface
The process of Module 3 can be generally divided into 2
parts, the first part is computer modeling by using Rhino,
and the second part is to handcraft the model by using
ivory cards.

The source of the inspiration of this design is the ocean wave, because the surface provided to me has a waved shape. I was not trying to use pyramids to change it but follow this topography and emphasise the shape of wave by using curve attractors and I made the vertices of pyramids toward the same direction and I used two curve attractors but obviously its not very successful, it becomes flat once I finished crafting. the part that I want to emphasize sinks and the part that I’m trying to make it flat curls up.

I used five different objects to create the model. The relationship between these 5 objects is continuous. The first three objects can be described as simple objects and the last two are more complex. I used simpler objects to express the peak of the wave and the complex objects were placed between simple objects to represent the trough of the wave.
